SOURCING

The Mighty Manawatu has a wealth of superb ingredients and craft producers and Brew Unions food selection is focused on fresh, sustainable and/or local products, where ever possible.

Brew Union's house beers are batch brewed mostly from family owned Gladfields Malt in Dunsandel, Canterbury. These combined with some of the world’s finest hops from NZ Hops of Motueka means more than 98% of our base beer ingredients are locally sourced.

Our Brew House was designed and fabricated locally by Tigpro Engineering from re-purposed dairy, apiary and brewery tanks, and designed to minimise liquid waste and conserve water and energy while delivering quality beers.

Finally our tap list, features a changing range of beers from independant small breweries from across the country.

WASTE

Spent brewers grains from the brewing process, which don't end up on the menu, are used in some specialty menu items, or used as stockfood. The Brewery, Bar & Kitchen conduct comprehensive recycling programs, with preference given to vendors who use low impact or recyclable products and actively minimise waste, recovering and recycling cardboard,  glass, comingled (tin/plastic) and composting food scraps.

Our packaged beers are sold in reusable Kegs, if you are not that thirsty, bring your own vessel to the Fillery and reducing packaging, or purchase a reusable Brew Union Growler (2L) or Howler (1L). By the way there is no harm or shame in dusting off grandads old 2.25L (half gallon) flagon or your clean plastic soda bottle for filling either.

We are thrilled to be foundation users of the AgainAgain Growler "borrowing" scheme launched in late 2023.
